Dreame has become a serious alternative to Dyson in the UK, with sticks that list big suction and runtime figures. The Dreame Z30 Ultra and the slightly older Z20 are often cross-shopped against the Dyson V15 Detect. This guide compares them on the claims that matter: suction, runtime, bin, weight, heads, sensing and how easy it is to get spare parts. Every figure comes from the makers' listings, and we flag where the brands measure in different ways or where a listing leaves a figure out.

Dreame Z30, Dreame Z20 and Dyson V15 compared

Runtimes are maker maximums in the lowest setting, so real use with a motorised head on higher power will be shorter for all three. Suction figures are each maker's own claim.

Suction claims: what the numbers mean

Dreame lists 330 AW for the Z30 Ultra and 250 AW for the Z20. Dyson has widely quoted 230 AW for the V15 Detect in its highest mode, though the Animal listing here does not state it, so check Dyson's current specification. On those claims the Z30 is ahead.

Air watt figures are measured by each maker in its own test set-up, usually at the inlet without a floor head. They do not tell you how well a head lifts dirt from carpet pile, how well the machine is sealed, or how long it can hold that power. Treat a higher figure as a sign of a strong motor, not a guarantee of better pick-up. Our air watts explainer goes into this in more detail.

Runtime, weight and bin

Both Dreame models list up to 90 minutes against 60 minutes for the Dyson. That is a meaningful gap for larger homes, although all three will run for much less on the top setting. Dreame also lists lighter weights: 2.2 kg for the Z30 Ultra and 2 kg for the Z20, against 3 kg listed for the V15 Detect Animal.

The Dyson has the bigger bin at 0.76 L against 0.6 L for both Dreames, so you empty it a little less often. For long sessions, plug your home's numbers into our runtime planner, and see our long runtime guide for more options.

Heads, lights and screens

The Dreame Z30 Ultra uses a CelesTect universal brush with a light to show dust on hard floors. Dreame says it identifies the floor type and adjusts rotation speed automatically. A motorised mini brush handles upholstery and stairs. The Z20 has a multi-surface brush and a soft roller brush, both lit, plus infrared dirt detection with results shown on an LCD.

The Dyson V15 Detect Animal comes with a High Torque head with a de-tangling comb and a Hair screw tool. Its piezo sensor sizes and counts particles, raises suction when it finds more and shows the counts on an LCD. In Auto mode, DLS monitors brush bar resistance 360 times a second to adapt to the floor. Dyson also sells a lit soft roller head for the V15 range, but it is not in this Animal bundle.

Spare parts and support in the UK

Dyson has sold cordless sticks in the UK for many years and offers batteries, filters, heads and repairs through its own UK support site. Parts for popular models such as the V15 are widely stocked by retailers too, which helps a stick last longer.

Dreame sells through its own UK store and major retailers, and lists filters, brushes and batteries for its current models. The range of parts and the number of years they stay available are less established than Dyson's, so check that filters and a spare battery for your exact model are on sale before you buy. Our Dreame range guide lists the current models.

  • Check the battery: confirm a replacement is sold for your model.
  • Check the filter: confirm the part code and that it is in stock in the UK.
  • Check the guarantee: read the maker's current terms for your retailer.

Note:Use only the maker's charger or an approved replacement battery. Never use a pack that is swollen or damaged, and recycle old lithium batteries at a battery recycling point, not in household waste.

Which to choose

Choose the Dreame Z30 Ultra if you want long runtime, a lighter machine and a high suction claim. The Z20 is a lighter, slightly lower-spec alternative with a screen and infrared dirt detection. Choose the Dyson V15 Detect if you value its particle sensor and counts, the larger bin, and a well-established UK parts and repair network.

For a broader shortlist, see our best cordless vacuum cleaners guide, which covers both brands.

Frequently asked questions

Is Dreame as good as Dyson? On listed specifications, Dreame's Z30 Ultra matches or beats the Dyson V15 Detect on suction claim, runtime and weight. Dyson leads on bin size, its particle counting screen and its long track record of UK parts and support.

Dreame Z20 or Dyson V15? The Z20 lists 250 AW, up to 90 minutes and 2 kg, with infrared dirt detection and an LCD. The V15 Detect Animal lists up to 60 minutes and 3 kg, with a piezo particle sensor and a larger bin. The Z20 suits those who want a lighter, longer-running stick.

Does the Dreame Z30 have a HEPA filter? Dreame lists HEPA H14 filtration on the Z30 Ultra and states it captures 99.99% of particles at 0.1 microns. That is the maker's own figure. Read our HEPA filters explainer for what filter grades mean.

Are Dreame spare parts easy to get in the UK? Dreame sells parts for current models through its own store and retailers. Availability for older models is less certain than for Dyson, so check filters and batteries are in stock before you buy.
