Our take
Suction and the two modes
The V8 digital motor runs at up to 110,000 rpm to produce the 130 AW figure. Eco mode is the everyday setting, aimed at balancing suction with runtime and preserving the battery, while maximum mode is for short, intensive cleaning.
Up to 40 minutes of constant suction comes from a six-cell lithium-ion battery, and charging takes four and a half hours according to the spec table.
Motorbar head and accessories
The listed components are the Motorbar floor nozzle, a combination accessory head and a crevice nozzle with a plug-in fitting. The Motorbar is Dyson's head for both carpet and hard floors, and the combination head covers upholstery and shelves in handheld form.
The recommended uses in the spec table are beds, cars and pet hair, which reflects how often a V8 ends up used as a handheld.
Filter, bin and noise
Filtration is described as a fully sealed system, and the filter is washable, so there is no replacement filter to buy for routine care. The bin holds 0.54 litres, which is fine for a flat but will need emptying during a whole-house clean.
The noise figure is 82 decibels, and the machine uses a trigger, so it runs only while you squeeze it. Its height is listed at 125.6 cm.
V8 Advanced against the Dreame T20 and V10 Animal
The Dreame T20 is lighter at 1.67 kg and quotes up to 70 minutes in standard mode, with four modes and a colour screen, though only 10 minutes on full power.
The Dyson V10 Animal suits larger homes better, with a 0.76 litre bin, up to 60 minutes, three modes and a torque drive head, at 2.66 kg.
Verdict
Choose the V8 Advanced if you want an uncomplicated Dyson for a smaller home, with a bit more suction than other V8s and a washable filter. If saving weight matters most, the Dreame T20 is lighter and runs longer, and if your home is larger or carpet heavy, the Dyson V10 Animal is the better step up.
