The Dyson V8 Absolute is the V8 bundle for homes where wooden floors and laminate dominate. Alongside the Direct Drive head for rugs and carpet, it comes with Dyson's soft roller cleaner head, a head the listing recommends for wooden floors alongside carpet and upholstery. For a flat or smaller house with mostly hard surfaces, that extra head is the reason to choose this version.

In its favour
- A soft roller cleaner head is supplied specifically for hard floors.
- The Direct Drive head is also included for any rugs or carpeted rooms.
- A HEPA filter type is listed, and 115 AW of suction.
Good to know
- 40 minutes of runtime is short for larger homes.
- The listed weight is not credible, so the in-use weight is not stated here.
Our take
Two floor heads in the box
The listing names a Direct Drive motor head, the soft roller cleaner, a mini motorised tool and a combination crevice tool. The soft roller suits hard floors, while the Direct Drive head handles carpets and rugs, so you switch heads by room rather than by mode.
The mini motorised tool makes the V8 Absolute useful on stairs and upholstery in handheld form.
Motor, modes and runtime
Dyson's digital V8 motor reaches up to 110,000 rpm and produces 115 AW according to the listing. Fifteen Radial Root Cyclones keep suction from fading as dust builds up. There are two modes: Eco for everyday cleaning, described as the best balance of power and battery life, and MAX for short intensive work.
Runtime is up to 40 minutes of constant suction from a six-cell lithium-ion battery. The spec table lists a charge time of seven hours, which is long, so the vacuum is best charged overnight.
Details the listing gets wrong
The spec table states a weight of 100 g and dimensions of 10 by 10 by 10 millimetres, which cannot be right for a stick vacuum. Treat the weight as unknown from this listing. The bin capacity is given as 0.54 litres, the filter as HEPA, and the noise level as 82 decibels.
Against the Dreame Z20 and Shark Stratos Pet Pro
The Dreame Z20 also has a soft roller, which is lit, plus a multi-surface brush, up to 90 minutes and a 2 kg listed weight. On paper it runs much longer than the V8 Absolute.
The Shark Stratos Pet Pro uses a two-roller DuoClean head for carpet and hard floor in one, with up to 60 minutes in ECO mode and a removable battery.
Verdict
Buy the V8 Absolute if you want a Dyson with a proper hard floor head for a smaller, mainly wooden or laminate home, and 40 minutes is enough. For longer runtime with a soft roller, the Dreame Z20 is the obvious alternative, and the Shark Stratos Pet Pro suits homes that want one head for every floor.
