Our take
Motor, cyclones and modes
The V8 digital motor runs at up to 110,000 rpm and produces 115 AW. Fifteen scrolled Radial Root Cyclones pull dust out of the airflow, and Dyson says suction does not drop as the bin fills.
Two modes are offered: Eco for everyday tasks, which Dyson says balances power with runtime and protects the battery, and MAX for intensive spot cleaning. Runtime is up to 40 minutes of fade-free power from a six-cell lithium-ion battery.
The head and accessories
The title names the De-tangling Motorbar head, which is designed to stop hair wrapping round the brush bar. The spec table lists a charging dock and a crevice tool among the components, and the recommended uses are beds, cars and pet hair.
The listing does not mention a combination tool, so check whether one is included if you plan to use it on upholstery. A handheld mode is not described here either, though the recommended uses for beds and cars point that way.
Bin, filter and charging
The bin holds 0.54 litres, and the filter type is listed as a disk filter. A full charge takes five hours, and the noise level is given as 82 decibels.
At 2.6 kg and 125.6 cm tall, it is easy to carry between floors, though the small bin and 40 minute ceiling limit how much house you can cover in one go.
Against the V8 Advanced and V10 Animal
The Dyson V8 Advanced is rated at 130 AW, has the same runtime and bin, and lists a washable fully sealed filter and a combination head, at 2.5 kg.
The Dyson V10 Animal moves up to a 0.76 litre bin, 60 minutes, three modes and a torque drive head for carpet, which suits larger homes.
Verdict
Buy this V8 Origin if you want the simplest Dyson stick for a flat or small house and 40 minutes of cleaning is enough. For more suction in the same body, the Dyson V8 Advanced is the step up, and for a larger or carpeted home, the Dyson V10 Animal is the better fit.
