This version of the Dyson V8 Origin is aimed at smaller homes, flats and pet owners who want a well-known cordless stick that is easy to carry upstairs. What lifts it above older V8 bundles is the De-tangling Motorbar head, which uses polycarbonate vanes to lift long hair and pet fur into the bin instead of letting it wind round the brush bar.

Our take
The Motorbar head and hair
Dyson explains that the Motorbar drives stiff nylon bristles into carpet for ground-in dirt, while carbon fibre filaments collect fine dust from hard floors. The de-tangling vanes are the part dog and cat owners will care about most, since they are meant to stop hair wrapping in the first place.
For sofas, pet beds and car seats, the machine converts to a handheld in one click, and the combination tool switches between a wide nozzle and a soft brush.
Suction and weight: what the listing hedges
The listing quotes 130 AW from a motor spinning at up to 110,000 rpm, but its own small print asks whether that should read 115 AW for this SKU and marks the weight of around 2.5 kg as approximate. The spec table repeats 2.5 kg. If the exact suction figure matters to you, confirm it before ordering.
There are two power modes: a standard mode for longer cleans and a higher mode for stubborn dirt and deep rugs.
Runtime, bin and filter care
Up to 40 minutes is quoted with a non-motorised tool, and Dyson notes that run time varies with mode and head. A full charge takes up to five hours, and the wall dock both stores the machine and keeps the combination tool clipped on.
The bin holds 0.54 litres and empties with a point-and-shoot ejector. Filtration is described as fully sealed, capturing 99.99% of particles down to 0.3 microns, and the filter is washable. Dyson asks you to rinse it at least once a month.
Compared with the V10 Animal and Shark Stratos Pet Pro
Step up to the Dyson V10 Animal and you get a larger 0.76 litre bin, up to 60 minutes and three modes, at a listed 2.66 kg. That suits a bigger house better than the V8 Origin.
The Shark Stratos Pet Pro is lighter still at 2.16 kg in use, with dirt sensing, a removable battery and up to 60 minutes in ECO mode.
Verdict
Pick the V8 Origin with the De-tangling Motorbar if you live in a flat or small house with pets and want a simple two-mode Dyson that is easy to carry. Larger homes will find the Dyson V10 Animal's bigger bin and longer runtime more useful, and the Shark Stratos Pet Pro adds dirt sensing for a similar weight.
