The Dyson V10 Animal is for homes with plenty of carpet, especially where pets leave hair ground into the pile. Its torque drive cleaner head pushes bristles deep into carpet to bring up embedded dirt. With a 0.76 litre bin, up to 60 minutes of runtime and a listed weight of 2.66 kg, it covers a whole house without being as heavy as Dyson's newer flagships.

In its favour
- The torque drive head drives bristles deep into carpet to remove ground-in dirt, says Dyson.
- A 0.76 L bin and up to 60 minutes suit larger carpeted homes.
- A mini motorised tool is included for stairs and rugs.
Good to know
- Power modes are chosen by hand, with no automatic carpet sensing.
- Runtime with the torque drive head on carpet will be well below 60 minutes.
Our take
Suction and the cyclone array
Dyson states that the V10 has 55% more suction than the V7. A 14-cyclone concentric array generates forces up to 79,000g, which the listing says keeps dust in the bin and prevents loss of suction as it fills.
Whole-machine filtration is said to trap 99.99% of particles down to 0.3 microns. The spec table lists the filter type as HEPA and cyclonic.
Three modes, chosen by you
Unlike Dyson's Detect models, the V10 has no automatic sensing. Instead it offers three cleaning modes that you choose yourself. Dyson notes that actual runtime depends on mode and attachments, so 60 minutes is the ceiling rather than what you will get on maximum with the torque drive head running.
Charging takes 210 minutes according to the spec table, and the noise level is given as 78 decibels.
Tools for stairs, sofas and the car
Four Dyson tools are included, among them a mini motorised tool for pet hair on upholstery and in tight spots. The machine converts to a handheld for stairs, cars and sofas, which is where the mini motorised tool earns its place.
The large bin means fewer trips to empty during a whole-house clean. The listing does not describe a wall dock or charging stand, so check how the machine will be stored before you order.
V10 Animal or V15 Detect Animal?
The Dyson V15 Detect Animal adds a dust sensor, an LCD readout, automatic power adjustment and a de-tangling comb, with the same bin size and runtime, but weighs 3 kg. If you do not need the sensing, the V10 gives you most of the cleaning for less weight.
The Dyson V8 Origin is lighter again but is limited to 40 minutes and a 0.54 litre bin, which suits smaller homes.
Verdict
The V10 Animal is a strong choice for carpeted homes with pets where you want a big bin and long runtime but are content to pick the power level yourself. If you want automatic adjustment and a hair-clearing comb, step up to the Dyson V15 Detect Animal, and if your home is small, the Dyson V8 Origin is lighter.
